Headin' south!

This morning I hopped on the TGV and went from Paris to Avignon. All I can say is that the south of France is a trillion times more beautiful than what they say; and this is just a small city! But I love it. I'm only here for 24 hours so I packed in a whole bunch of touristy things including Le Pont d'Avignon (on which the french song is based) and the Palais des Papes which was really really neat. Apparently, a long long time ago, Avignon was the center of religion and this is where the first 9 popes (if I'm not mistaken) ruled.

Other than that, well, as soon as I got off the train, I got hit with warm wind and a very comforting slightly lavender-ish smell. I'll be touring the south for the rest of the week and maybe a bit more next week so I'll keep youz guys posted on stuff.

Oh the first part of my pics (mainly family pics and kittehs)are on flickr, the direct link to my album is now in the sidebar.

More to come soon!!!!

French kitties, next destination and FO report

I finally managed to upload some pics and here are some...(don't laugh...the adventure part of my trip needs to start asap...don't worry, I know)

I'm sure you can guess which one is my favorite...

With my two parisian nieces...they're hilarious!!!

I haven't done many touristy things (other than drink lots of coffee and eat croissants) since I'd done a few of them before, but tomorrow I'm off to the Pompidou museum for the first time to feast my eyes on some cubist, fauvist and pop art. Should be fun!!!

So...my time in Paris is slowly coming to an end (for now) and I'll be heading south next week to Aix en Provence for a big Couchsurfing thing. Hopefully the weather there will be a little warmer because really, the greyness/not hot-ness is a little sad. I needs sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, a little FO-ness for you...

Pattern: Dream Twister Socks by the lovely Mona Schmidt

Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Merino in Country Garden

Started: march 29th 2008

Finished: may 16th 2008 in the plane (where the pic above was taken)

Comments: I love the freaking socks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The pattern was fun, the yarn was drool-worthy, I have nothing bad to say. I've alreqdy worn these socks and washed them and...it's just...I just...Love. Period.

Now I know, whatever shall I knit now?? Well I've cast on a pair of plain socks (well, I might play around with them...) and in the train, I'll start the Twisted Flower socks in Dream in Color Smooshy color Happy Forest that I blogged about right before I left.

So there, be nice everyone!!!!

The downside to travlling sans laptop...

...is that it makes for some difficult pic posting. What I should do technically is go to an Internet café and dump them there and re-dump then in Flickr, but really...you guys can wait a fez more days right?? Yeeeeeeeeeeeeees you say?!?! That's exactly what I thought :-)

So my Paris adventures are...quite tame really! Since I'm staying with family and it IS only Tuesday...oh well, but I' walking around a lot trying to stay away from the touristy things I've done before and it's workin' pretty well for me (even though I can't help but stare whenever I spot the Eiffel Tower). This afternoon I just kept walking along this nice little pedestrian street cribbled with hella-expensive yummy smelling restaurants and I ended up right next to Les Halles (beautiful park/garden) near the Chamber of Commerce and a whole lot of natives were just hanging out and having lunch in the grass. It was nice, I started talking t a couple of guys and out of nowhere I spot one of my cousins and one of her employees just enjoying the sun. It was a nice little coincidence!

Anyhow, tonight we're going to a Comedy Club and then out for drinks, should be fun!!!

Take care peeps!!

French keyboards will be the death of me...death I say!!!!!!!

Transition complete

suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup people...

so i'm in Paris (well suburbs...but who cares really!!!!!!!!!!) and I'm healthy and happy. I'm staying with a cousin and it's a lot of fun. I'll be heading into Paris tomorrow for drinks with some couchsurfers and who knows what other shennanigans. I'm super happy to be here and there was a cute surprise for me when I got here, I walked into my cousin's to find a littler of 4 kittens. They're a-fucking-dorable. There's 3 black tabby's and (of course) an adorable orange runt. His name is Jojo and he's my favorite tiny kitten since Serge.

Ok, obviously I have more to talk about than french kittens, I finished a pair of socks on the plane (Dream Twister socks) and I'm trying to find a way to upload my pics so that I can post a real FO post. So I'll be cqsting on for a pair of plain socks today I think...it'll be that or Twisted flower socks...who knows!

Anyhow, I'm off to have some tasty french lunch...neeener neeener neeeeeeeeener!!!!!

Hihi!

transformation commencing...

From 100% knitting blog to travel blog...transformation should be done by tomorrow morning for me and tonight for you :D

Happy friday people!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of love!

Travelling K

Can't sleep...too damn excited...!!!!!

I finished packing and putting all my shit away. I can't believe that I managed to get all that done tonight. The only thing that scares me is that I have to see how heavy my pack is considering the weight restrictions. I hope everything looks up me!!!

I passed by to see Robyn today to pick up some sexy yarn and she had made a little going away package. I was really touched and it's perfect for me...here...I'll show you!

She got me 6 (yes 6!!) pairs of dangly earrings. Yay!!!!!!! I have to wear earrings otherwise I look super butch (not that there's anything wrong with that...just not my style...) so this is perfect!!!!

The yarn has a lot of yellows and lighter greens...sucks youcan't see it here...

For those interested in the yarn p0rn, I gots me (finally!) some Dream in Color Smooshy and it's gorgeous. It doesn't seem as "sproingy" as the CTH but I can't wait to see how it knits up. I saw some really nice examples on Ravelry so I'm looking forward to it! I'll be making Twisted Flower Socks with said yarn. I've only had great things to say about Cookie A.'s patterns so far so hopefully the love affair will continue...once I finish the 2 socks on the needles (commute sock and dream twister sock).

Ok I guess I should try to get SOME sleep!

Good night!!!

PS: I'll be in Paris in less than 24 hours...neener neener neener :D Sorry, I had to do it once...I love you all!!!

Travel knitting...

How many sock projects are too many sock projects? So far I'll be leaving with one almost finished sock (Dream Twister sock #2 unless I finish them tomorrow) plus yarn for like...3 other pairs...what!?!?! variety is the spice of life :-D

I'll post pics of the yarns tomorrow and divulge the patterns as well...

I'm not half as stressed as yesterday, my best friend took me out for supper (as a belated birthday gift) and we went to what is now my favorite place in Montreal. It's called Au Pied de Cochon (at the pigs foot). Everything there is foie gras based hence a meat eaters paradise. The service was AMAZING! The food was...how did it come out earlier..."like my tongue having the best sex ever!" I swear if you like good food with a good conscience (everything is local from the duck liver to the butter and they've made their name from developping "relationships" with nearby small farms for their produce), go go go go go go! Plus, it wasn't pretentious as I thought it was and wasn't even near what I thought it would be price wise. A definite must. I'll tell you what I had for supper in my next post :-D

Goodnight!!!!!!!!!!

- The pile of laundry I still have to do before I go...

- Everything else...

But I love the fact that:

- This weekend, I'll be in Paris

- This weekend I'll be in Paris :-D

The blog may go silent until I get there, but who knows, maybe I'll turn into Wonder Woman and finsh all I have to do by tomorrow night and then I'll be able to reeeeeeeelax.

Good night all!

Happy Mothers Day!!!!!!! + FO report

Here's to all of you mothers, grandmothers, mothers to be, etc...

You ladies kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a pretty cool day here. We all chipped in and got some lobsters (*sigh of contentment*) and we boiled them and the chopped them in half and put the under the broiler with a mixture of lemon, garlic, olive oil and chopped jalapenos. There was no talking during supper, only the sound of lobster parts breaking. A tradition is born I think :-D

Oh, also, here's a pic of my mom wearing Montego Bay. She's been wearing it a lot which is a good sign and apparently a couple of people have asked where they can get one (mwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!)...

Specs:

Pattern: Montego Bay Scarf (IK summer 2007)

Yarn: Handmaiden Fine Yarn Sea Silk

Started: Nov 7th 2007

Finished: April 17th (soooooo embarassing...)

Comments: Liked the yarn at first but it wasn't "smoochy" enough for me in the end and that was a big factor on not knitting it. My mother really likes the fact that it's light but still warm so maybe she's right...what am I saying, she's my mother, of course she's right!!!!!! (lol!) Other than that, the pattern was super easy to memorize and perfect for mindless tv knitting.

More to come tomorrow!

thursday

OMG I leave in 8 days...can you say freak out!!!!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!

Ok...got that out of my system...phew!

I'm still knitting the second Dream Twister Sock and I'm at the heel. I can't wait to wear them, the yarn is soooo smooshy-licious!

Next up on my queue is going to be a pair of felted slippers for the trip. I know, it seems like I finished Fuzzy Feet 2 weeks ago right...wrong! Thanks to a cold winter and my cat's claws, I need me a new pair! I got some Cascade 220 at Ariadne recently (green and purple) and I want to make the stripey...then again...whatever happens happens. It'll be nice to try felting with another yarn since I wasn't excstatic over the Lamb's Pride Worsted. Had I knit the first pair double stranded, I'm sure the resulting fabric would've been way more solid...or anyhow I think so...only experience will tell!

More soon!

knitting

Because yes, I do knit! So since my nieces have gone home (and I've gone back to a pleasant sleep), I've been knitting a little. I've mainly been running around like a headless chicken trying to get all my shit in order before I leave on the 16th. It's mainly because I'm not going to Senegal anymore (family feud) therefore (!) I will be
spending 8 weeks in Europe. Where in Europe? Ireland I don't know... If anyone has any suggestions, I'm super open to them!

Ok, so on to the knitting.

Please note that I wasn't drunk while taking this pic, I've been having some issues with the focusing part of photo taking...

So yes, one of the Dream Twister Socks is completed. I hate that the yarn is too dark because this pattern is STUNNING! These socks are the perfect combo of lovely yarn and lovely pattern BUT the only issue is that together they don't work as well as I would've hoped...boo!

There's also a completed Tofutsie sock (commute knitting) which Mary will be happy to know does NOT smell like shrimp...at least not yet. Ask me again after I've worn it for a few hours (oh my sense of humor...bwahahahaha!).

Other than that, everything is kind of at a standstill. I just can't muster up the desire to knit anything other than socks so...(check out this transition!) I went ahead and jumped on the bandwagon for the (big echoing voice) SUMMER OF SOX! (/big echoing voice).

I've entered the "Vacation Sox" contest since I should be able to take some fun sock pics while travelling and it'll be a funny way to meet people.

Anyhoo...that's pretty much it for now!
